Before you jump into buying your new or used Ford Ranger, we've gathered some helpful information to help you make an informed decision on whether your next vehicle should be a Ford Ranger
What to look for when buying a Ford Ranger
- First up, find out the ownership history. If the vehicle has been used as a workhorse for a company it will have been treated rougher than one whos had a single, private owner. Regular service intervals from a qualified garage are a good sign too so make sure you go over the servicing history.
- As Ford Rangers are off road towing vehicles, its a good idea to check the underbody for any dents, scrapes and general tidiness as this can give you a good idea on how it has been treated in the past as well.
- When you drive the vehicle, do all the common checks like vibration, rattles, knocks or smoke from the engine.
- Test the vehicle in both Hi and Low

2019 Ford Ranger Raptor
The first-ever Ford Ranger Raptor was released in 2019 as a high-performance pickup truck designed by Ford Performance for true off-road enthusiasts. It reinforces Ford's commitment to providing high-performance utes to their customers.
The Ford Ranger has a Terrain Management System (TMS) that includes six driving modes that can be set via a specialised five-button switch on the steering wheel. Each mode has been fine-tuned to provide the greatest possible combination of technology that work together to master the terrain or driving style. Among them are:
Modes for use on-road
- Normal - Comfort, fuel economy, and driveability are prioritised in this setting.
- Sport mode - Responsive for on-road driving with vigour. To aid throttle response, this entails quick, precise gear shifts at higher engine rpm. When the driver's demand increases, the mapping responds by holding gears longer and downshifting more quickly.
Off Road Modes
- Grass/Gravel/Snow mode - Created to encourage safe and competent off-road driving on slick and uneven conditions. This is accomplished by reducing the likelihood of wheel slip through smoother gear shifts and second-gear starts.
- Mud/Sand mode - The vehicle's response is adjusted for maximum traction and momentum on deep, deformable surfaces such as loose sand and mud. Lower gears with high torque are used to achieve this.
- Rock mode - Designed for low-speed rough terrain with a focus on smooth controllability.
- Baja mode - The vehicle's response has been adjusted for high-speed off-road performance, just like the famed Baja Desert Rally. Vehicle systems such as Traction Control are reduced in intervention in this mode, allowing for spirited off-road driving without fighting the vehicle's on-board systems. In this mode the gear selection is designed for maximum performance.
